Glossary

The Pixelhounds glossary is a guide to our way of thinking and include some new definitions, common tasks associated with processing photos, text, art and other creative media.

Creative Providers ("Creatives") - n.  Semi-skilled digital artists (professional, semi-professional, aspiring).  Whether self-taught or with formal training, "creatives" have the artistic skills necessary to perform various post-processing tasks needed to convert digital images from hard drive junk to "best-of" digital image products (photos, slideshows, photo books).  Creatives may bid for a set of tasks in a narrow specialty or to handle entire projects.

Photo Books - n. In the Pixelhounds definition, Photo Books refer to bound (paperback or hard cover) books that are assembled and layed-out from a rated (1 - 5 stars) library of digital images.  A photo book may also contain cropped, study or retouched photos.  Each of these individual tasks required to yield a Photo Book is defined in the Pixelhounds design marketplace, each task is optional and quoted separately.

SnapShorts - n.  SnapShorts are a proprietary Pixelhound standard product designed to present large numbers of digital images to consumers and their families in a (mercifully) brief summary form.  SnapShorts may be e-mailed, delivered as podcasts, uploaded to personal video devices (iPod, PS3) or sent to web-attached digital picture frames.

Scrapbook Frames - n.  Scrapbook Frames are specially designed Photo Books that are designed to allow layout space for scrap book items (news clippings, ticket stubs, 3D mementos and other 'experiential' souvenirs

Hobbyists - n.  Those who are fascinated by film and digital photography and all the processes used to create prints, books and other mementos.  (photo adjusting and retouching, composition and layout)

Study - n.  A study is a detailed view of a larger image cropped and printed as a separate image

Consumers - n.  Consumers see the tools and processes of digital photography as a confusing, time consuming means to an end.  The ideal 'end' being mementos and tidy, sharable collections of your family memories.
